Coolant Hybrids
From: Charlie
Subject: Antifreeze
Bobby,
Is there a good substitute for antifreeze for the Toyota Scion? The dealership says it uses Toyota Super Long Life 50/50. Which they sell for $20.50 a gallon... Any cheaper substitute? An AutoZone employee says to use Dexcool.
Thanks in advance,
Charlie

Charlie,
The trend in coolant technology is moving toward using "hybrid" coolants… those containing both conventional additives like silicates and nitrates; with the addition of Long Life organic acids, (just like those found in Dexcool).
Anything labeled GO-5 is definitely hybrid chemistry... which is very good stuff!
Try looking for these brands: A fully-formulated coolant, such as Zerex, Ford Gold or Daimler-Chrysler’s new G-05® hybrids, Prestone® Heavy Duty, FleetCharge®, or Fleetguard Compleat® can be used in all. These products will cover both your traditional green and other Long Life needs.
BG Universal Super Cool®, Part No. 546, will be an excellent addition to any of these coolant types. It is actually a concentrated "hybrid" coolant additive, and is 100% compatible with ALL coolants on the market today... even diesel coolants! Click here to find a shop in your area that uses BG chemistry.
Best regards,
Bobby Likis
