Warranties: BG Protection Plan

From: Ralph
Subject: Extended Warranties

Hi Bobby,

My question is in reference to extended car warranties. I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle with 34,000 miles. I bought the car with 19,000 miles on it from a Ford dealer’s program car auction. I have 2,000 miles left on the car warranty and am wondering if the $1,500 cost with a $100 deductible is worth the price of extending the warranty.

Would appreciate your input, Bobby,
Ralph

Ralph,

Extended warranties can provide coverage from breakdowns, but with regularly scheduled maintenance, power trains (engine, transmission, differentials) should last 200K miles. If you decide to buy an extended warranty, it must cover electronics and A/C components. Some of which are alternators, computers, compressors, evaporator cores, fuel injectors, body control modules/components that eventually cause problems.

There’s one option that you should not bypass. BG provides a 150K-mile, 7-year Protection Plan that comes (free) with each mechanical component that is serviced by a participating shop using BG’s Automotive Chemistry. These shops include new car dealers, independent shops and chain stores. My Car Clinic Service customers love it.
