TECH TALK: Your Car Battery Doesn’t Like Cold Weather

One of the most overlooked items when it comes to winter car care is your battery. It’s common to check things like oil, coolant, and wipers. And yes, those things are important, but they’re not going to leave you stranded like your battery will. 

How do you know the condition of the battery?

Well, if it’s on the fritz, it tells you so when you start it in the morning. 

If you experience:

1. A sluggish start
2. That “wha-wha-wha” sound (like Charlie Brown’s teacher)

Then it’s probably time you check your battery. Chances are, you’ll need to get it replaced.

If you want to be certain, the best thing to do is take it to your local shop. They’ll typically check it for free. 

Don’t wait until it’s too late.

Car batteries have a life expectancy of about three to four years.

I’ll tell you one thing, I’d much rather take my car in to have the battery replaced than have it towed to a shop because the battery is dead.

Getting your car towed can be a tremendous expense. It’s usually cheaper and safer to just get it replaced when it’s time. 

Be good to your car and it will be good to you.
