Until recently, my preventive maintenance routine consisted of me dutifully getting an oil change by the date on the sticker the service advisor put on my windshield. Beyond that, I didn’t know where to start. When I asked a few friends what they would like to learn about their vehicles, all of them told me most information would be new to them!
If this sounds familiar, then keep reading and start empowering yourself with automotive knowledge. Before I started learning about vehicle maintenance, I would’ve said, “That’s none of my business,” and called my dad. I’d never heard of a climate control service and had no clue that you should replace your cabin air filter at a certain interval.
Arming yourself with some basic automotive system information can prevent being oversold and taken advantage of, which is also why we so often phone a friend or family member for help or a second opinion. So, instead of being reactive, like waiting to get a flat, or having your engine overheat on the highway, you can be proactive about your car’s maintenance, and make sure breakdowns don’t happen.
A climate control service is not the same as a cooling service. If your A/C is struggling to keep you cool this summer, don’t ask for a cooling service. A cooling service actually refers to the system responsible for keeping your engine cool. So, “cooling” refers to keeping your engine cool, and climate refers to keeping the inside of your vehicle cool (or warm, depending on the weather).
When you hear “climate service,” think of it as the weather of your vehicle.
“Climate” always makes me think of the rainforest—musty and humid—and that’s how the inside of your vehicle gets in the hot weather months if you don’t maintain your climate system.
A BG Climate Control Service is made up of three products:
So, as long as you’re getting a BG Climate Control Service at the recommended yearly interval, you won’t have to worry about any of that. Your vehicle’s air will stay fresh-smelling, cold, and clean.
You can read more in-depth here about some telltale signs that your car’s A/C is having issues.
Remember those friends of mine who also lacked basic vehicle system knowledge? I was riding with one of these friends to a concert, and the outside temperature was in the mid-90s. Just a few minutes into the ride, the car had not cooled much, and I was beginning to sweat. I asked her to turn up the A/C, and she said it was on high. It was barely blowing air!
Fast-forward and she recently had a BG Climate Control Service. Now her A/C is colder, blows much more air, and her car smells great! She now understands how to maintain her climate control system to keep it in peak condition, and how to keep herself and her passengers comfortable.
